Paul Fisher writes...I needed to get up early, so I set the alarm for 1.15am. Even at that time of year it would take about an hour or so to get there and I couldn`t rely on the engine not to cut out. When I was almost where I wanted to be I pulled into the shore and dragged the ruck-sack up onto my shoulders. I walk another 50 feet or so and I saw the tree I was looking for-it must of been 30 feet tall, at least. Perched at the very top of the tree was the nest, and I could just about make out the mother`s features. The wind was with me and I don`t think think she`d spotted me from up there. I assumed the father figure was still in bed, maybe polishing his tail or something. I reached into my bag and fiddled around until I felt what I was after. I took it out and threw it into the river in fast, easy motion. As soon as she heard the splash the mother was out of the that nest and crawling down the trunk, into the water. No sooner had she done so than the father poked his nose over the parapet. It was going to take more than a day old kangaroo foot to get him out of bed, that was certain. I dove into the bag again and took out a pig`s head I`d been keeping for best, lobbed it into the river and within seconds he was in after it. I jumped up to the nest and clung to the branches, quickly grabbed what was there and hot footed it back to the boat, kicked the engine into life and made it home in double time. TODAY, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN ( AND ALL YOU OTHERS IN BETWEEN) AT GREAT PERSONAL RISK, AND NOT A LITTLE EXPENSE, WE WILL BE HAVING ALLIGATOR EGGS FOR BREAKFAST!
